Well Designed Versatility

To save you reading everything below: this is the best DURABLE expandable and size-customizable duffel bag I've ever come across (and I nerd out on duffel bags). If you need a bag that can change sizes, and take a decent beating, this is probably it. If you want a more comprehensive breakdown, keep reading. I have a fascination with duffel bags - definitely have more than I need, and one of those reasons is due to different capacity needs in different contexts. I'll probably never stop searching for the PERFECT duffel bag, but this one does come VERY close. I'll break down the pros and cons below. PROS: - Very impressed with the mechanism for expanding and contracting the bag. Was suspect of the idea of it, but it works extremely well AND doesn't take away from the look of the bag. The tiny magnets used to contain the excess drawstring work surprisingly well - never had an issue with it coming out during travel through 4 different airports (I had it at its smallest capacity - so both sides cinched). I am going to be sending it through luggage in its largest capacity, in a week. I feel pretty confident that it's going to handle the experience fine (it'll be going international, through multiple airports, so will be a good test) - if for any reason it doesn't I'll update the review. - The materials and hardware all seem to be really sturdy, especially for something that's this collapsible. Straps, connection points, zippers, handles, and primary material all seem to be durable and thoughtfully selected for maximum versatility. I'm new to SBS Zippers on a heavy duty duffel vs. YKK zippers. If you're an outdoor gear-head, you're familiar with both and they're both quality products (you've almost certainly experienced both on quality outdoor gear). This is almost certainly strictly a familiarity bias - the SBS zippers have given me no reason to doubt their integrity. - Aesthetically, I like the look of this bag. I like the colors (I got the olive green, which has a bright green liner that helps you find items), the lack of any loud logos or branding, and the minimalist use of zippers, straps, handles, etc. I also like that they have enough pockets for them to be useful (one on the outside for easy access, a couple on the inside that I use to separate dirty clothes and/or items I need to get at quickly). Most people either love lots of pockets and zippers, or find them redundant, I fall into the latter camp (I rather use every inch of space possible for packing - and the fewer zippers that MIGHT one day fail/break, the better). - CONS: - The price point is a little higher than I'd like to spend on this. I KNOW I'm paying for the design and the versatility, but I have an idea of how much it'd cost to manufacture this thing and I know they could've cut the price a little bit. My current 'go-to' carry on duffel, if I don't need the versatility of expansion/contraction - is a No.3 BAD Duffel: bombproof materials/hardware, made in the USA, fits in any overhead bin on any jet, 47L capacity, backpack straps, and has a lifetime warranty...$135.00. If I'm taking a trip where I need JUST a carry-on, the BAD bag is probably going to remain the go-to. I DO like the aesthetics of the Piorama more (subjectively), I like their backpack conversion design better, and Piorama does a much better job of marketing their product.

Coolest bag ever!!

This is the coolest bag ever! I love the versatility of having 3 sizes available with one bag! And the versatility of being able to use it as a duffel bag or backpack or carrying it in my hand. This design is amazing! I'm an avid backpacker who travels to different areas to backpack and this bag is perfect for that. I use it traveling, camping, etc. I highly recommend this bag. It's truly amazing!

Good bag

Good bag and a neat idea. Minimizing the bag works well. I thought it was slightly narrow but over all pretty great

Great bag

Good, but I can never remember which attachments to hook shoulder straps too. Good bag; could use a few more inside pockets.

Most Useful, Any Travel Need Luggage System

I bought this in the Kickstarter a few years ago and this duffel has repeatedly proven to be the most useful purchase I've ever made. I attend a conference every year that results in the acquisition of a lot of swag and resources -I use super scrunch down on my way to, and expand it to hold everything I've collected for my flight home -still haven't had to check in luggage. I am happy to report that hauling this through the rain sprinting for a train, on a motorcycle, getting dragged by an overzealous dog who accidentally got a lead caught on the handle...this thing survives. I'm actually considering buying a second for a big motorcycle trip I'm taking to south america next year since it gives me the flexibility to be prepared for whatever comes. Great purchase -very durable, worth every dollar, and clean aesthetics and design. Freedom without excess.
